AROUND MIRLHOF

Mirlhof is an hour’s drive from the cultural hub of Salzburg, around 3 1/2 hours from both Vienna and Munich, and 2 hours from Graz. Nestled in Styria, in the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park and the spectacular Dachstein mountains, it is just 10 minutes drive from the nearest piste and only 25 minutes from the home of the 2013 FIS World Cup, Planai, Haus and the resort of Schladming. The lakes, and the mountains and valleys nearby are superb for swimming, and boating, and walking outside the winter season.

There is lots to do in the surrounding area. There is a range of ski slopes, pools, spas, forests and other places of interest only a short drive from the chalet.  We are lucky to not only have wonderful scenery but also brilliant sights and activity centers. The famous Stoderzinken Zipline is just a few minutes drive, and the Ennstal Classic car rally takes place every July in nearby Grobming.

Nearby spas include Grimming Therme- a half an hour drive away - and the fantastic Panarama Bad outdoor swimming pool complex in Grobming

WINTER SPORTS

Styria (Steiermark) has some of the best skiing in Europe with 8 resorts and 123 km of piste including the FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup run at Planai and fantastic Nordic skiing at Ramsau am Dachstein, which hosted the 1999 Nordic skiing World Cup. Planai has a good snowboard fun-park and one hour away at Flachau is one of Europe’s best. You can even ski and board in the summer on the beautiful Dachstein glacier. Hochwurzen has 7 km toboggan run for a thrilling ride day or night!

SUMMER VISITORS

There are many summer attractions for all ages in the local area. Lake swimming, mountain biking and the area boasts Austria's biggest climbing park, with fun for all the family at the Grobming Adventure Park,  just 15 minutes drive away.

Golf courses, rafting trips as well as flying and climbing lessons are part of the diverse activities on offer in the local area.

Cycling is a major activity in the Ennstal, and the area boasts many kilometres of cycle tracks and quiet roads.

If that all sounds too much, you can slow down and unwind at the nearby Spa at Grimming Therme, or slightly further afield at Therme Amade with its array of waterslides to keep the kids occupied all day.

HIKING

The local area has a variety of walks to suit all ages. Mountains, rolling hills and crystal clear lakes make up the local scenery and you are never too far from a welcoming mountain hut if you are in need of refreshments.

FOLK TRADITIONS

Throughout the year there are many village folk festivals, some dating back to medieval times. We have had some unusual visitors to the chalet at Yule time and Grobming boasts it’s own Krampus Gruppe. We have seen them out and about in the town on Krampusnacht (evening of December 6th) – this entertaining event only happens in certain mountainous regions in Austria.
